Lets make a Halloween video!

Ever wanted to make a movie? Then join the Let's Make a Movie group, share your ideas, and help produce a short film or video for submission to film festivals or distribution via the internet. No experience required, just join and have fun.

Lets make a fun video for the fall season. I suspect the next DVInfo contest will happen in October and this could be a good warmup.

The purpose of the first meeting will is to see all the new faces and brainstorm on the project. I would like us to have the basic ideas and plot points outlined by the end of the meeting.

We can plan future meetings as part of the agenda of this one.

Even if you are going to be an actor or crew you need to attend this meetup!

30 Days Of Meetup - Day 29

Triangle Philosophy and Triangle Buddhism Meetup Group
As far as the East is from the West
http://philosophy.meetup.com/80/calendar/8746662/

Triangle Philosophy enjoys food, drinks, and challenging discussion in our monthly meetings at restaurants (or homes) around the Triangle.

Triangle Buddhism gets together for introductory presentations, special-topic discussions, book reviews, meditation practice, and teachings by visiting expert practitioners. We share our experiences and knowledge of Buddhist centers and resources in the Triangle.

Join us for a discussion of Buddhist philosophy as it applies to contemporary cultural and personal issues such as morality, pursuit of happiness, victimhood, forgiveness, anger, guilt, punishment, and altruism. We will discuss our own answers to questions like these:

- Is there a relationship between morality and the pursuit of happiness?

- Define the terms "victim" and "perpetrator." Are there certain rights that should be awarded to victims or denied for perpetrators? Are we justified in thinking of victims as "more deserving" than perpetrators?

- What exactly is forgiveness? Does it involve condoning of actions? Whom is it meant to benefit?

- Which of these should trump the others: individual experience, cultural norms/mores, authority, tradition.

- Can anger or guilt be productive in the long run?

- What is the best thing to do with anger?

- What is the effect of capital punishment on our safety?

- What is the definition of happiness?

- Is it better to think of yourself as more important than others, less important, or equally important?

- Is it better to take care of yourself first or take care of others first (in terms of basic needs)?

30 Days Of Meetup - Day 28

Raleigh Recent College Grads Meetup Group!
Mini Golf? HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!

Are you a recent college grad? Are you new to the Raleigh area (and now all the people you know live in another state?). Or maybe you've lived in the area for a while but you're looking to meet new people?

This group is for all of the above. There seems to be a serious lack of groups on this site that focus on the recent college grad. Meaning, those 25 and younger group (we won't hold it against you if you're a year or two older though!).

This group is for those who are just starting out their post college life - working professionals especially - who are in need of meeting some people who know how to kick back, enjoy a cold one and still enjoy doing random stuff.

This is not a group for single folks looking to find true love! No, no,
no. This group is for people who want to make new friends and do fun stuff in the Raleigh area! We're young! Let's enjoy it together!

This Recent Grads meetup group would not be complete without the planning of at least one mini golfing event. This may be completely bias, but mini golfing flippin' ROCKS. I'm terrible at it, and hey you may be too! But that's ok!

This event is for those who don't take themselves too seriously when it comes to friendly competition (though, BRING IT ON). Plus! One game is only $7 bucks per person (better yet! if we plan it right and get a good group, it can be only $5 bucks! Aww yeeeaaaah).

Triangle 20s/30s Singles
20s/30s Soir-Wii
(http://singles.meetup.com/720/calendar/8537795/)

Everyone wants to have someone special in their life, but it is hard to meet people in this crazy busy world, that's were this group comes in. We are not promising you will find that special someone at your first, third, or tenth event. We do promise to provide a friendly atmosphere that encourages finding that special someone.

The organizers will plan events for you too attend. The events maybe small or huge, but they all will provide an opportunity for you to talk with the other people in the group. We encourage talking to everyone, because you never know what might come of that new social contact.

The Main Objective is for singles to hang out together. This does not HAVE TO be a avenue for you to find a date, so just relax and have fun!

soiree (swä-r) - a party of people assembled in the evening (usually at a private house)
Wii (wee) - a gaming console developed by Nintendo
Soir-Wii (swä-wee) - a night time party featuring the Nintendo Wii for the purpose of getting a group together to have fun and meet new people

Being always on the look out to make things more fun and entertaining, I bought a Nintendo Wii back in 2007. The Wii comes with a lot of great games that make it a lot of fun to compete with friends and strangers. But, the night isn't just about playing games, it's about mixing and mingling with other singles in the group. There will be snacks available and you should bring your own drink and/or snack to share.

Movie Buddies
Ghost Town
(http://movies.meetup.com/753/calendar/8809191/)

We're a very informal group, with lots of Assistant Organizers operating independently to cover as many movies and show times as possible. In order to provide consistency, I'm going to use this page to establish policies that will be used at every Meetup regardless of who is organizing.

1) Meetup times will be scheduled for 30 minutes before the show time of the movie.

2) The Meetup organizer will be in the designated location 5 minutes prior to Meetup time.

3) The Meetup Organizer will stay in position until all "Yes" RSVP's are present, or until 10 minutes after Meetup time, whichever comes first.

4) For Meetups scheduled on the opening weekend of a movie, Meetup Organizer will pre-purchase their own ticket (at box office or via Fandango) and encourage members to do the same.

Ricky Gervais and Greg Kinnear star in director David Koepp's fantasy comedy concerning a dentist who gains the ability to communicate with the dead after momentarily dying during a routine dental surgery. When the dearly departed begin requesting that the dentist act as a point person between the living world and the spirit realm, he does his best to ensure that the messages of the dead reach their intended recipients.

Triangle Inline Skate Club Meetup
Wednesday No-drop Trail Skate in Durham (with dinner afterwards)

If you like being outdoors in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina with wheels on your feet (or if you haven't tried it yet but the idea sounds intriguing?) then you've come to the right place! The Triangle Inline Skate Club Meetup is for skaters of all levels, from the beginning recreational skater to professional speed skaters. We have a little something for everyone, so sign up today and see what we're about.

This is a no-drop skate open to all skaters and we skate at a speed that everyone is comfortable with, so beginners are encouraged to attend. The American Tobacco Trail (ATT) is built on an old railroad bed that is relatively flat and straight, making it one of the best skating trails in the Triangle. Any hills are very gradual, although a couple are long enough that you can pick up some speed. Braking skills are required to stop where the trail intersects with roads. (Let us know if you need some braking tips.) As with all our group skates, helmets are required. Wrist guards, elbow and knee pads are recommended. You should also bring water or a sports beverage for hydration.

The ATT is about 6.5 miles from end-to-end and we skate out-and-back for a total distance of 13 miles. Since you can turn around at any point, let us know if you're not comfortable with this distance.

The Triangle Environmental Network
Entomophagy and the Environment

Join us as we explore the natural areas in the Triangle, work to conserve our local resources, and look at alternative energy issues and solutions. Meet with like-minded individuals to take action that makes a difference in our local community.

The Science Café will be held on September 16th at the Irregardless Café, Raleigh. This should be a fun and interesting café - we will be discussing entomophagy (the eating of insects for food) and how using insects as a source of protein may be beneficial to the environment.

Entomophagy, or the practice of eating insects for food, is a topic that is objectionable to many. Still, eating our six-legged friends may be a viable way to feed hundreds of millions of people while at the same time lowering humanity's impact on the environment. Join us to learn about arthropods as food -- and if you want, even sample a few on your own!

CRUZIN' ANGELZ - Good Girlz Gone Biker!
Never ride faster than your ANGEL can fly!

http://fembikers.meetup.com/171

Our group is made up of women who ride their own motorcycles. We welcome all makes and models, especially cruisers, since Cruzin' is what we do best! Our goal is to support each other while gaining experience, fun, friendship, and growth. Statistics show that only 12% of motorcyclists are female. Our intent is to accomodate women with situations and circumstances, so that we feel comfortable in this "male dominated" world of motorcycles. We also have co-ed Meetups, so that our husbands and guy-friends can come out and join us too!

The Cruzin' Angelz makes an effort to support local charities whenever possible, and one of the events we attend each year is the "K.C.'s Ride Without Fear". The ride is sponsored by the NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and is hosted by Ray Price Harley Davidson. This annual charity event helps to support awareness of intimate partner domestic violence. The event is dedicated to Karen Crawford, a woman rider, whom was strangled and killed by her ex-boyfriend on Jan. 1st, 2006. This year's ride will take place on Saturday, Sept 13th and we encourage everyone to come out and help support this great cause...even if you don't ride motorcycles.

Examining the Details of a Paranormal Investigation - Electronic Voice Phenomena

Do you want to meet other people interested in learning how to investigate paranormal phenomena, share your insights and make new friends? If any of the above describes you, then you've found the perfect group!! We don't make trips to battlefields a priority, or discuss individual "sensitive abilities" ad nausium. Through our association with the National Society of Paranormal Investigation and Research, Inc. (NSPIR), we'll show you how to properly investigate paranormal activity using scientific principles. We will discuss various techniques and how they are used, review actual cases and also practice using these tools in the field.

One of the simplest methods of data collection during a paranormal investigation is the capture of Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) or Instrumental TransCommunication (ITC). The tool for the investigator to use for this method is relatively inexpensive and not a specialized piece of equipment.

In this meeting we will focus on the following:

* The details of the equipment used,
* Investigation techniques employed (including some that are controversial),
* Methods of recording, and
* The analysis of collected data.

Examples from actual cases will be played and discussed.

The Triangle Adoption Support Group
The Triangle Adoption Support Group September Meetup
(http://birthparents.meetup.com/86/)

The Triangle Adoption Support Group was made to support all members who make
up the adoption triad. It is a 'safe' place for our members to come and
discuss where they are in reunion, or discuss other adoption related issues
and problems. Our group is made up of individuals from all sides of the
adoption triad. Adult adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, sibilings,
adoption professionals.

Upcoming events include in November a showing of the movie Loggerheads - a
story about a North Carolina birth mother who relinquished her son and then
went looking for him after he turned 21. She found too late, as he had died
a year prior to her finding him. We also will be showing a video called 10
Things: Adoption Search and Reunion in the upcoming months.

Our September 7 Meetup will be about those adoptees who resulted as of Donor
Insemination. Do they have rights to locate the person who supplied either
the sperm or egg in order to creat them? Do they have a right to that half
of their medical makeup? What types of emotional or other types of
challenges confront these adoptees?

We look forward to any member of the adoption triad coming to our group
meetings.

Organizer: Raleigh Portuguese Language Meetup
http://www.portuguese.meetup.com/286

The Raleigh Portuguese Language Meetup is a 108 member group of people who are learning to speak Portuguese, speak fluently, or are native speakers. On average anywhere from 10-22 people attend a meetup event, usually the same 'core' members. We have members of all levels in the group. Some of our members are interested in Brazilian Portuguese, and some are interested in Continental Portuguese. Lucky for them, we have Brazilians, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean members in our group. We meet every other Thursday at Panera Bread-Crabtree at 7pm. We usually take 30 minutes to eat and chat before we begin a lesson or a game that aids in the development of vocabulary, verb tense usage, fixing common mistakes....etc. On our 'About Us' webpage there is a lot of interesting information about countries where Portuguese is spoken, learning links, international newspapers...etc.

On September 5th and 6th, our group will attend the Raleigh International Festival. Some of our members will work at the Brazilian Booth. This year the festival is being held at the new Raleigh Convention Center, and in conjunction with Raleigh Wide Open.

Oh by the way it's FREE!

The International Festival is a chance for us to learn about different cultures, sample their foods, purchase their wares, and watch their performances. I've been almost every year since I moved to Raleigh and it gets better every year. This is a big weekend in downtown Raleigh and everybody should take advantage of it.

The Raleigh Sailing Group is a group for people who enjoy sailing and other types of boating as well. Of course we cannot be on the water all the time, so we have other activities as well! Anybody who enjoys being around or on the water is welcome to join us.

Well you've all heard about this in "Pirate speak" but here are the activities we have planned in regular every day English. That way everyone will understand just how much fun International Talk Like a Pirate Weekend can be. The timing for the pirate theme corresponds with International Talk Like a Pirate day. It's a real day, September 19th, actually and you can learn more about it at www.talklikeapirate.com We have four events planned! A pre-party, a pirate theme party, a day on the water on sailboats, and a cookout at the marina after the day on the water. The pre-party is a registration event. We have made arrangements for discount hotel accommodations at the Bridgepointe Hotel, which is adjacent to the marina, for both Friday and Saturday nights and arranged for a DJ for the pirate theme party Friday night. Our DJ can do Top 40, Beach Music, Oldies, Rock n Roll and Karaoke, it will all be available Friday. The fee involved will basically cover the party Friday and we will provide burgers and dogs, chicken for the grill, and chicken wings. We ask that everyone bring a dish to share for the Friday party. Saturday September 20th will be a day on the water. We will leave the marina around 10:00 AM and meet up on the Neuse River later. We'll tie the boats together and be able to go from boat to boat sampling the hospitality of each crew. The crews are asked to bring their individual provisions on board as well as enough everything to share with their captain. We will return to the marina Saturday evening and be able to once again enjoy marina life around the captain's lounge with each individual providing their own refreshments. You may choose to stay at the Bridgepointe Hotel Saturday night or make your way home. We encourage you to stay an additional night and party with us pirates!

30 Days Of Meetup - Day 2

[30s & 40s] Happy Hour @ Cary's Stonewood Grille
http://singles.meetup.com/9/calendar/8324646/

The Raleigh-Durham Singles 30s/40s group is a fantastic group of people. We are all professionals in the 30s and 40s age range interested in socializing with other single professionals. Whether you are looking to make friends, meet that special someone or just have a good time, this is the group to hang out with. We always have a good turn out consisting of old friends and new people to become old friends. Primarily we have a 30s/40s Happy Hour every Tuesday at 6:30 at a local bar/restaurant. We also try to have a House Party on one Saturday a month. Occcasionally we will do another event such as a movie on the lawn of the Art Museum, dancing with DJ George, meet for a concert, etc.

Our first Tusday Happy Hour this month is at Stonewood Grille. This is a favorite location of the group with their wonderful food and their Martini specials. There is an outdoor patio where we usually gather, weather permitting, that allows us to mingle without too much background noise and loud music. They also have a very nice bar area with good size tables and booths when the weather doesn't cooperate or as it gets later in the evening and we move inside.

Trikke Riders of the Carolinas (http://fitness.meetup.com/874/)

Drive Your Fitness Machine.... For those who have found this great new way to get and stay fit. Come join us for fun on three wheels... Don't know what a Trikke is .... check it out at trikke.com

Q: What is our main purpose?
A: To learn and enjoy activities and events related to riding Trikkes.

Q: Who should join us?
A: Anyone that is interested in this new fitness machine. We will even have demos models available for those who just want to try one out, but please bring your helmet

Q: What are the benefits of joining us?
A: Good friends and good fun on three wheels

Trikke three-wheeled cambering vehicles are human powered machines that utilize Trikke Tech's patented 3CV technology to allow a rider to propel a chainless, pedal-less device forward without ever touching foot to ground. This elegantly simple construct provides a stable 3-point platform that leans into the turn with the rider while all three wheels remain in contact with the ground. A rider may reach speeds of up to 18 mph on flat ground, ride 50 miles in one day, and climb the steepest of hills (with practice!)

We have two Meetup events planned for the 1st of September. The first will be a conditioning ride for distance. Labor Day Ride - Level 1 + "Going the Distance" This Meetup event will focus on carving and building speed. The second Meetup event will be a general newcomers Meetup. This will just be for working on your lean. Holly Springs Fun Ride Level 1
